If you find yourself at Spiderman Buttress and all the good climbs are taken then maybe it's worth jumping on First Ascent Crack. A low angle seam rises a short distance from the ground just right of the start to Spiderman and offers up an opportunity for a new trad climber looking to place gear for the sake of it on lead. The climbing is easy and doesn't offer up any real movement but does allow for learning to place gear in a relatively safe environment. Like a lot of the trad climbing at Smith, the inside of the crack formed with bumpy tuff nubbins that makes finding quality placement a choice of the least worst. Either way, it's an easy route that protects and offers up some learning opportunity.
