One of the most prominent and sizable chunks of rock in the park, The Smith Rock Group has tons of climbs both on its east and west sides. On any given day climbers can be seen across the different areas in this region from the parking lot and hike in.
The east side gets morning sun but quickly turns to shade in the early afternoon and makes for a perfect climbing area on hot days. The Phoenix Buttress, Llama Wall, and the Northeast Face highlight the east side with classic single pitch climbs and multi-pitch adventures alike.
The west side offers less volume of climbs but still has its own cluster of quality rocks in it's own right. Expect a decent amount of afternoon sun with areas remaining in the shade for the better part of the day given the time of year. The west side sports the ever popular multi-pitch Wherever I May Roam

The Sterling Hollow Block is great at biting down on ropes when tying friction knots using a Prusik, Klemheist, or auto block. Its Aramid fiber construction helps resist abrasion and heat. Pony up a few extra bucks to have one hanging from your harness, you’ll end up using it.
