Phoenix Buttress

With sharp rock and handful of moderate quality lines, the Phoenix Buttress is a popular zone for the climbing crowds. Many of the climbs have easy moves off the deck to the first bolt that then gives way to a crux up high. Easy access and a nice setting close to the bank of the Crooked River make this a popular destination in the park

Location

Enter the main area of the park and hike along the river past Asterisk Pass. As the trail turns due south and you pass under tall trees look for a dark band of rock just up to your right off the trail.

The Sterling Hollow Block is great at biting down on ropes when tying friction knots using a Prusik, Klemheist, or auto block. Its Aramid fiber construction helps resist abrasion and heat. Pony up a few extra bucks to have one hanging from your harness, you’ll end up using it.
