This is the climb you hiked over to the Mesa Verde Wall for! Although rated more stiffly than its neighbors to the left, no one move felt much harder than Screaming Yellow Zonkers. The climb also offers up plenty of awesome photo opportunities with the prominent arete and vertical face climbing. Similar to Screaming Yellow Zonkers, the start requires confidence and the assurance you will make it to the first bolt. It’s not hard but it would be bad to blow.
From the first bolt, work your way towards the arete and climb straight up by blending fancy and delicate footwork through techy moves. It’s all there but it lacks many variations for a few of the sequences. Near the top is where folks have the opportunity to get creative in their approach by how much they use the arete before pulling through a bulge to the finish. Can’t say enough good things about this climb - awesome position, unique climbing with a great flow, and clean falls make it a Smith Rock classic.
